Our friend Ian Lesnet from Dangerous Prototypes is sure Rockin the Open Source Hardware Project Space. As many of you know he is attempting to build a new open source project every month (well at least every month on average). Most of you probably didn’t know that Ian and I worked over at the AOL property DIY Life for a short time (Ian longer than me). HTC Evo 3D – Specifications and Review

Feather touch done, android done, thousands of applications done, high edge cameras done, Carl Zeiss optics done, dual core processors done. What more can you think of in a “Cell Phone”? Well HTC has answered that creative question quite well by launching their HTC EVO 4G which they say “captures your photos and videos in 3D, plus you can view them without the glasses. The stunning 4.3-inch qHD display gives you crisp websites, vivid images and incredibly fluid videos.

The 3D Display

The phone’s main feature is new and improved camera and full HD camcorder with zero shutter lag and stereo sound recording so you can always capture that timeless moment and then view it on 4.3 inch qHD capacitive display. The parallax barrier technology is used to display 3D images and videos without the use of clunky 3D glasses. The EVO 3D’s 4.3-inch qHD 960-by-540-pixel screen looks terrific in 2D–and pretty good in 3D, as well. Although, you should not expect the experience on the phone as dramatic as in cinema where the images fly into your face, rather the effect is more like a diorama. If you are familiar with the principles by which 3D effect is perceived by your mind then you might be knowing that the screen of this size demands a close range viewing to experience 3D effect. So, it is probably a bad Idea if you are planning to watch whole 3D movie on the phone and if the angle of viewing is deviated a little bit only blurry images are seen. HTC knew this and other problems with 3D concept so they installed the phone with a simple button to toggle between 3D and 2D.

Design

The HTC EVO 3D overall is a gorgeous phone. The EVO 3D is black with blood-red detailing. And the smartphone feels solid, but not bulky in the least. It has a nice, textured rubber backing and a slimmer shape that feels good in hand. With the battery in place, the HTC EVO 3D weighs 6 ounces. It measures about 5 inches tall, nearly 3 inches wide, and 0.47 inches thick. Its display is a 4.3-inch 3D touchscreen with a sheet of Gorilla Glass for added toughness. Unlike the EVO 4G, the EVO 3D doesn’t sport a kickstand–mainly because the twin 3D cameras occupy most of the space on the rear.

Software

Like the HTC Sensation, the EVO 3D comes with the latest version of the Sense user interface. Sense 3.0 has a brand-new customizable lock screen. You can pick a theme for your lock screen and then select four apps that you visit the most. When you turn on your phone, you’ll see those four apps at the bottom of the screen. To unlock your phone, you drag the circle and move it over an app; you then jump straight to that app. That way, you don’t have to go through multiple menus to reach your e-mail or any other items you access frequently. The new version of Sense also has a spruced-up Walls system. Rather than having to flick back and forth between your walls, as you do in the stock Android operating system, you can flick the EVO 3D’s screen to make the walls spin. The effect is slightly reminiscent of a carousel and makes navigation a little easier.

Hardware

The Evo 3D redeems itself with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Snapdragon processor supports advanced 3D technology, including full 1080p 30-frames-per-second HD video and stereoscopic 3D video capture and playback. The result is an incredible high performance than its predecessor allowing you to play games more smoothly and do other things faster.

Camera

The ultimate WOW of EVO 3D is its extraordinary back decorated with awesome twin cameras which helps you to capture best 3D videos and pictures. Although you can’t view as wonderfully what you captured on phone as you can on a 3D TV with the help of the phone’s HDMI-out jack. The HDMI jack uses a technology called MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) that allows both charging and HDMI-out via the same port.

Like the Sensation 4G, the EVO 3D comes loaded with Watch, HTC’s new movie and TV-show streaming service. With Watch, you can download videos and start viewing them immediately. Watch is well integrated into Sense, making it easier to find the videos you want to, um, watch. The app’s interface is clean, and movies are easy to find, but the library is pretty sparse at this point. How To Always Keep Your Android Running Smoothly

There has been a lot of amazing mobile devices to hit the market in the last year or two and an increasing number of people own smartphones. Remove Your Battery:

Most people know how to remove the battery on their phone but if you’re not, look up how to do it online. This may sound ridiculous but it’s surprising how little some people know about the devices they use every day. Turn your phone off before attempting to remove the power source. You should do this about once every month. You won’t loose anything like your music, apps, or downloaded files but what it does is sets your phone close to factory condition. If you’re not sure how to do this you can always contact your provider’s technical support department and they can walk you through the process.

Clearing Market Cache:

You’ll want to do this often because it can slow down your device having all of that stored data that’s completely useless. To delete the market cache first you’ll want to click menu> settings> applications> manage applications> market> then click clear cache. This is a simple and effective way to free up a little space, especially if you install and uninstall a lot of applications. You want to keep your device as clean on the outside as you do on the inside.

Clear Your Browser:

This is done for very similar reasons as when you clear the market cache. It frees up storage space and allows your Android to run smoothly. The difference is that your browser history is a storage hog and takes up a ton of room. This is an essential tip. To clear browser caches, click browser> more> settings> clear cache> clear history> clear all cookie data.

Axing Unused Widgets:

A lot of people usually don’t clear off their screen from all of the widgets that are there. You might not think about it at first but they will drain your battery, as well as slow down your phone. These widgets are using processor power too and clearing them up can really help out.

These are good tips to keep your Android device happy and healthy. If you want to look for other routine maintenance you can either go online and check or call the technical support department and check with them. Everything, no matter what it is, needs maintenance from time to time and your Android is no different. Just because it needs it doesn’t mean that anything is wrong with it.

Pandora Goes Public

Gone are the days of dial-up and downloading speed. With improved internet routers and better connectivity people can share files, pictures, and music with greater ease than every. And apparently, as some companies have shown, hosting such activities can prove a highly lucrative business while charging absolutely nothing in the process. Years ago it was unheard of for a company to see a free service as a lucrative business model but several social media sites have proven that it is actually possible. Pandora is the most recent site that has gone public and with great success.

Pandora was founded more than a decade ago by Tim Westergren, and affiliates, as a free service but after going public on the market, the company is now valued somewhere in the ballpark of three billion dollars. On June 15th, Pandora’s stock opened at twenty dollars a share and started trading high. This is impressive for a company that’s never made a penny in profits from its users. At the time of writing the shares reached the 23-dollar mark.

It’s overall shares surged as much as 63 percent during their debut. The stock did pull back later in the secession closing just above seventeen dollars. This was a bit of a dip but it’s still a huge market gain that’s impressive by any standards. This is far higher than the expected 16 dollars a share price range that beat even Pandora’s highest expectations.

Pandora is just a part of a larger portrait in the new wave of Silicon Valley companies that have tapped into larger public markets. Some economists fear that, with more Internet companies going public, this will lead to a technology bubble that’s just waiting to burst. LinkedIn and Fusion-io are two other companies that have tapped into the power of public market trading and have done quite well for themselves. With this success, more and more companies will take further steps toward open market involvement. And with a market desperate for more product, it’s feared that if there’s a sharp decline in share value that this burgeoning new market will quickly pull many investors down with it.

Even with Pandora’s obvious success there remain many skeptics as to the company’s future prospects. The company has run a deficit and the amount of royalties has remained disproportionate in comparison to the money that it’s bringing in. The company has suffered an uninterrupted sting of losses that’s totaled out to around 92 million due to theses factors. It’s that that, unless they can increase their subscribers or offer new material, these losses will likely grow. Not everyone is so skeptical of Pandora’s prospects. The company is still doing quite well in most regards and many are hopeful that the market will prove that there is promise for similar companies going public.

After Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in 2007 the Naughty dog’s gave PS3 a new exhilaration with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves with almost everything as it is supposed to be for a gamer. The story, graphics, effects etc are perfect enough to consume you for hours playing the game.

The story starts of after about a year from where the 1st one ends and is about finding lost treasure of Marcopolo which of course is not simple. The techniques, shooting, puzzle solving and other stuff is basically the same throughout the game but the story and the different places introduced in the game makes it very interesting and quite faster than the previous one.

As for the gameplay itself, Uncharted 2 — like the original Drake’s Fortune — tasks you with gunfights, environmental navigation or puzzle solving. 2. God of War 3

God of War 3 is the first game in the series built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3, and the team behind the title spared no detail; the game feels like it has been painted on your screen. Even the flashback sequences, using more traditional animation and a hyper-stylized look, add much to the game. It’s a clever way of showing what came before without dealing with the graphics of the past.

If you’ve ever wanted to successfully trick a friend or loved one into believing your phone call originated from someone else or from an established entity ñ you’re in luck, because services like this have existed for quite some time. Several online companies allow you to create your own area code and prefixing number sequence, enabling those who buy a number to be detailed in the falsehood they’re trying to convey. For example a jokester dad might call his daughter pretending to be her most loved male celebrity with a California area code to seal the sell.

This service has its well-intentioned non-prank purposes: a lawyer may wish to call a client from home but keep his home number a secret, adult phone services might use this to prevent clients from finding the real locations of their conversation partners, et cetera. But according to co-founder of Secure Science Lance James, nearly three-fourths of ID spoofing profits come from those using the service for illegitimate purposes. This illegitimate activity is known as vishing, which is similar to phishing. The difference, and an important one, is that those who commit vishing fraud are using the telephone to make contact with their victims. The trusted nature of the landline telephone makes these kinds of scams easier to execute. By using an online service that allows them to falsify their phone listing, these perpetrators can hop from one number to the next and avoid detection. They can even prepare themselves for the savvier of the saps they target by making sure the area code looks legitimate.

Companies intentionally offering false numbers aren’t the only tools these crooks use. Services like Skype and other VoIPs typically hand out a number for any new user. Measuring 82mm x 335mm x 223mm, the robot comes with its own configuration software, allowing you to tweak its setup and control to suit your needs and requirements. Kondo designed the robot to require only two servos per leg using a unique spring and multi-bar linkage approach that provides improved flexibility and stability even while tackling complex obstacles.
