@i0ni1c has just confirmed on his twitter page. He has successfully found an exploit in iPad 2′s iOS 4.3 firmware while being away from the iPad 2. He said his exploit works and that he has successfully jailbroken the 4.3 firmware for iPad 2. He is now waiting to install it on an iPad 2 before he can release it to the public. He also said, and we are quoting:
That said I will release the jailbreak when a) there is no other untether by the time I am finished b) if MobileSubstrate works.
Many people were saying that he is holding off the jailbreak release until Apple releases 4.3.1 firmware so that the company doesn’t patch the exploit. Again, iPhone 4′s 4.3 was recently hacked at Pwn2Own contest and Apple wouldn’t let their phones just run with the security hole still unfixed. They will be releasing the 4.3.1 firmware pretty soon. However, i0n1c said that he isn’t waiting for the Apple to release the 4.3.1 firmware before he could release his Jailbreak for iPad 2. He said he will be releasing it as soon as the MobileSubstrate works. When asked about the estimated time of arrival of the Jailbreak solution, he just said it could be within a week.
